Grand Central Station.  Grand Central Station has just finished a complete refurbishment and is definately worth visiting.  Grand Central is used by the MTA's Metro North Commuter Railroad for service North and East of NYC.

Hell's Gate is indeed a sight.  It is used by Amtrak trains between Penn Station and New England along the NEC.  I believe it spans the gap between the Bronx and Queens.  I couldn't tell you of any places to view the bridge however.

Excellent value in the heart of the theater district. The hotel has just recently underwent a renovation. The rooms are fresh & comfortable.
The bed configuration offered in the hotel is either: one double size bed, two double size bed, or one king size bed. Nice hotel for those
who want a clean basic room in a convenient location.

Located: One block West of Rockefeller Center.

-Parking: across from the hotel $17.50

 -180 rooms, 16 floors

Other Internet Resources

http://www.lasvegasroomfinders.com/newyork/index.htm is a room finding service.
Priceline has an interesting rule book that Betsy might study.  You specify the price, priceline electronically auctions the price for participating hotels.  If a hotel agrees to meet your price, then it books a room and the transaction is completed.  I am reluctant as of this writing (9-Mar-1999) to sign up.
The New York Subway system.  Here is a map of the area where we are staying, I think.  General information on the subway system for "normal" people is here.
An article on Jet Lag, which is something I especially will have troubles dealing with; Caroline will have some troubles.

The University of Texas has a Map resource page.  Here is a map of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.  It's big.

Arrangements we've already made

Depart Seattle

April 10th 7:35 AM PST United flight 12 Arrive JFK 1536 (3:36PM) EST   Includes breakfast and a movie
Note: Goldie has to go with us to the airport with her credit card in order to pick up the frequent flyer miles.!

To get from JFK to Manhattan, take the Q10 bus and then connect with the "A" train.  Then, depending on where we stay, either stay on the  "A" train or connect with the 1, 2, 3 or 9 train at Chambers Street in Manhattan.  The New York subway system has an extensive web page, including a map of the entire system.

Return to Seattle

April 13th 1650 (4:40 PM) EST United flight 237 Arrive SEA 1940 (7:40PM) PST  Includes dinner and a movie

Monitoring the flights in progress

This web site has up to the minute information on where the airplane is, culled directly from the FAA (I don't know how they do it).

Cats

We are seeing Cats Monday April 12 at 8 PM at the Winter Garden Theater.  Our confirmation number is TPCA A15175596.  The Winter Garden Theater is at 50th & Broadway.  I find addresses in New York City very confusing, however, I think the theater address is 1632 Broadway. There is a Yahoo! map of the areaYour browser can't see .GIF files
Our confirmation number is TPCA A15175596.  The play starts at 8 PM EST, which will be 5 PM PST for our biological clocks.
